Senior Day GalleryALBANY – Junior
Zoe Dubois' three-run homer tied game two in the bottom of the fifth, but Southern Connecticut State used its own three-run inning in the sixth to complete a three-game Northeast-10 Conference sweep of The College of Saint Rose softball team Saturday afternoon, taking 4-1 and 7-4 wins, from Cathy Haker Field.
Â
The Golden Knights (13-19 overall, 5-10 NE-10) honored its graduating senior class in between games.
Â
Trailing 4-1 entering the fifth, junior
Taylor Snyder and sophomore
Carly Wood occupied first and second, respectively, with one out, when DuBois entered to pinch hit for senior
Anna Carey. DuBois let just one pitch go by before cranking out her first homer of the season far beyond the left field fence, tying the game at 4-4.
Â
The Owls (14-14, 8-7) regained the lead in their next at-bat, starting with a RBI single to short from senior Sarah Koerner. Senior Nicole Buch put SCSU up by two more when she reached on a single, and advanced to second on the throw, allowing Buch and sophomore Arianne Tedeschi to score.
Â
Saint Rose got on the board first as it loaded up the bases off a pair of walks and a bunt from senior
Alexis Williams in the bottom of the second. Junior
Rachel Waseleski was drawn in the lineup following Williams, and was also walked to send freshman
Taylor Solomon home from third.
Â
In the third, with two outs and runners on second and third, SCSU capitalized on a throwing error from shortstop
Danielle Brusca and a hard hit from sophomore Giuliana D'Arcangelo to pick up two runs. D'Arcangelo was sent home on the at-bat when junior Leanna Feerick homered to left after fouling off nine balls.
Â
Senior
Ashlee Frazier (3-4) suffered the loss in the circle after throwing a complete game, and striking out five batters and allowing all seven runs, three of them earned.
Â
The Golden Knights could only muster one run in game one, getting ahead early in the first off a passed ball with runners on second and third and Snyder at the plate.
Â
D'Arcangelo and junior Audrey Dolloff laid down RBI singles, and senior Kelly Mitchell reached on a throwing error from sophomore Renne Vaiano to secure her own pair of RBI in the fourth, giving the Owls the eventual 4-1 win.
Â
Vaiano dropped to 3-6 on the season while allowing all four runs, all of them earned, and fanning six.
Â
DuBois went a perfect 3-for-3, including a double, her homer and three RBI, to lead Saint Rose from the plate. Snyder and Solomon followed at 3-for-6 and 2-for-6, respectively.
Â
The Golden Knights take a break in their league schedule to head to Dominican on Tuesday for a pair of games starting at 3:00 pm from the DC Softball Field. Saint Rose then heads to New Haven on Friday for a three game series to wrap up the regular season. First pitch is slated for 3:00 pm.
