SAINT ROSE FALLS IN 12 INNING HEARTBREAKER AT UPSTATE CHALLENGE RIVAL LE MOYNE

SYRACUSE–Host and Upstate Challenge rival Le Moyne manufactured a run in the 12th inning to hand The College of Saint Rose a 1-0 heartbreaking setback in Northeast-10 Conference Southwest Division action today.

Junior right-hander Phillip Zdanowski and senior right-hander Chris Gould battled Dolphins junior right-hander Zach Place and senior right-hander Conor Nolan all afternoon.

Zdanowski scattered three hits and whiffed nine throughout 7.0 innings of work to lower his ERA to 1.33 on the year, seventh best in the NE-10. He also maneuvered around a second and third jam in the third inning and worked throughout a leadoff base hit in the seventh. Meanwhile, Gould surrendered four hits and struck out three in 4.2 innings out of the bullpen, and stranded a runner on third in the 11th.

Place allowed four hits in 7.1 innings before handing the ball to Nolan who gave up two hits in the final 4.2 frames.

Offensively, junior left fielder Nick Venier went 2-for-5 with a pair of doubles to lead the Golden Knights (5-16/2-7 NE-10). Also, senior first baseman Zac Bellinger finished 1-for-4 with a walk to run his hit streak to seven games, while freshman shortstop Bray Curreri doubled in four at-bats.

Saint Rose threatened with runners in scoring position in the third, fourth, and 11th innings. However, in the 12th, Le Moyne sophomore designated hitter Mike Martin stroked a leadoff single to left, stole second, advanced to third on a fly out and scored the game's lone run via a sacrifice fly off the bat of junior catcher Trey West.

Looking ahead, the Golden Knights are home this Saturday and Sunday, April 18 and 19, to host NE-10 division rival New Haven in a three-game series. Saturday's twin-bill gets underway at 12:00 pm. Meanwhile, the Dolphins have a 1:00 pm non-league doubleheader tomorrow at East Stroudsburg.
