GOLDEN KNIGHTS SPLIT WITH PANTHERS ON SUNDAY

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – Despite a 3-for-3 performance at the plate in game two from junior Danielle Brusca, The College of Saint Rose softball team split a pair of games with Northeast-10 Conference foe Adelphi Sunday afternoon, taking game one 7-3, and later falling 3-1 in game two at Janet L. Ficke Field.

A single inning of hot hitting gave the Golden Knights (6-8 overall, 1-2 NE-10) their only win of the weekend in game one of the day. Junior Zoe DuBois broke the scoreless drought in the bottom of the fourth as she collected a RBI single to right with runners on first and second. Senior Kari Bird followed with a walk to load up the bases, bringing up her sister Marisa Bird, who nabbed her own RBI single to left.

Senior Alexis Williams stepped up next, and was also walked, bringing junior Taylor Snyder to the plate. Snyder ripped a two RBI single to center, sending the Birds home. Brusca was drawn next and flew out to left in foul territory, but her deep shot gave Williams enough time to scoot home. Saint Rose capped the inning and registered its seventh and final run of the game off a sacrifice RBI to center from junior Carly Wood.

The Panthers (6-12, 3-1) put two tallies on the board in their next at-bat off a pair of RBI doubles, and added a single run in the seventh as freshman Brenna Martini and senior Jaclyn Binstock took turns on second with back-to-back doubles.

Sophomore Renee Vaiano (2-3) threw 7.0 solid innings to take the win in the circle as she struck out three and allowed nine hits.

Despite Brusca's perfect outing, Saint Rose could not keep the fire going in game two. The Golden Knights got on the board in the second inning off a sacrifice bunt from Bird (Kari) and a pair of errors from Adelphi, but gave up single runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh to suffer the loss.

The Panthers started the single-run consecutive innings spurt with a homer from freshman Nicole Camera in the fifth. Martini aided in the sixth with a RBI single to center, and senior Victoria Wink tacked on an insurance run in the seventh with a sacrifice RBI fly to left.

Throwing her second complete game of the weekend, junior Nicole Wickham (4-5) suffered the loss as she gave up 10 hits and three runs, all of them earned.

The Golden Knights are scheduled for a non-conference double header at Post on Tuesday, and will make their home debut on Wednesday in an Upstate Challenge match up with Le Moyne starting at 3:00 pm from Cathy Haker Field.
