WATERBURY, Conn. – Post University racked up 12 hits and nine runs to hand The College of Saint Rose softball team a pair of non-conference losses Tuesday afternoon as the Eagles collected wins of 3-2 and 6-1 at LaMoy Field.
Â
With the sweep, the Golden Knights fell to 6-10 overall and Post improved to 9-9.
Â
The Eagles posted a pair of three-run innings to secure the win in game two, starting in the second. Sophomores Kathryn Dawson and Jessica Grzywna occupied first and second base, respectively, as Marissa Cammarano stepped to the plate. Cammarano reached on an error by pitcher
Ashlee Frazier, and advanced to second on the throw, meanwhile Dawson moved to third and Grzywna scooted home. Dawson would head home on the next play as sophomore Kristen Owens singled to left and collected the RBI. With the bases loaded, junior
Danielle Dayton entered for Frazier, and walked her first batter to give Post the 3-0 lead.
Â
In the sixth, Grzywna led off the inning with a double to left center, and was replaced by pinch runner Amanda Ely, who was able to reach home off a RBI single to center from Dawson in the next at-bat.
Â
The Eagles loaded up the bases once again and captured two more runs as freshman Korie McDonald singled through the right side and collected two RBI.
Â
Saint Rose cranked out eight hits and left seven on base throughout the game, but could only register one run in the fourth off a RBI single from junior
Taylor Snyder. Â Â Â
Â
Frazier (0-1) suffered the loss as she gave up three runs, one of them earned, and two hits in 1.1 innings. Dayton struck out three and gave up four hits in 4.2 innings of work.
Â
The Eagles did not waste any time getting on the board in game one as they collected single runs in three different innings. In the first, freshman Nicole Venturini reached on a fielder's choice and moved to third on a single to right from Emily Schaffer. Venturini eventually advanced home on an error from third baseman
Carly Wood.
Â
After a scoring drought in the second, the Golden Knights collected their only runs of the game in the third. Junior
Danielle Brusca led off the inning with a single to third, moved to second as freshman
Taylor Solomon was hit by a pitch, stole third and scored on a throwing error from catcher Dawson. Solomon scored later in the inning off a RBI single to left from junior
Tina Karaqi.
Â
Post answered right away and tied the game in the bottom of the inning, with a single run off a RBI single to right from junior Kayla Kresley.
Â
In the fifth, sophomore
Renee Vaiano (2-4) entered in relief of junior
Nicole Wickham. Vaiano gave up a double to left from McDonald, and a RBI single in the next at-bat from Venturini, to give Post the lead and the eventual win.
Â
The pitching duo combined for five strikeouts, four of them from Wickham, while giving up just six hits and two earned runs.
Â
Karaqi paced the Golden Knights from the plate with a 3-for-6 performance and one RBI on the day, while Wood and senior
Kari Bird dished out two hits apiece to go 2-for-4 and 2-for-5, respectively.
Â
Saint Rose makes its home debut on Wednesday in an Upstate Challenge double header with Le Moyne, beginning at 3:00 pm at Plumeri Sports Complex. The Golden Knights hit the road on Thursday for a three game series at Pace, and return to the Capital Region on Monday to hosts non-conference foe Mercy starting at 2:30 pm.
