GOLDEN KNIGHTS START FAST TO HALT NEW HAVEN

WEST HAVEN, CT-The College of Saint Rose held host New Haven to 29 points below its season scoring average and turned the ball over a mere six times to chalk up a 47-36 victory in Northeast-10 Conference action today. The Chargers' 36 points represent the fewest the Golden Knights have allowed in their NCAA era (1991-92) and the fewest since they upended Bard College 99-32 during its 1987-88 NAIA campaign.

Freshman guard Jamaal Greenwood led Saint Rose (7-16/5-11 NE-10) in scoring for the second straight game with 13 points while freshman forward Jack Jones and junior forward Chris Dorgler tossed in 10 apiece. Dorgler also had nine rebounds and four assists.

The Golden Knights led wire to wire although the Chargers (12-10/7-9 NE-10) were within six, 40-34, with five minutes remaining. However, freshman center Sam Eckstrom finished inside that pushed the lead back to eight, 42-34, with 4:29 left.

Saint Rose then forced New Haven to come up empty on its next three trips up the floor and subsequently went 5-for-7 from the foul line throughout the final 1:19 to seal the victory.

The Golden Knights got off to an exceptional start. Saint Rose jumped out to a 15-0 advantage and shot 50.0 percent (4-for-8) from the arc during the opening 20 minutes to take a 31-20 lead into the locker room. The Golden Knights led by as much as 16, 26-10, with five minutes remaining, before the Chargers closed the period with a 10-5 spurt.

Senior guard Jonny Ocasio paced New Haven with 10 points and eight boards, while senior center Eric Anderson added six points, 13 rebounds and five assists.

Looking ahead, Saint Rose returns home Wednesday to host Pace University for Athletic Appreciation Night. Meanwhile, the Chargers will host Le Moyne on Tuesday. Both games are scheduled to tip-off at 7:30 pm.
