GOLDEN KNIGHTS RALLY FALLS JUST SHORT IN SEASON-OPENER AT MERCY

DOBBS FERRY, NY-The College of Saint Rose rallied from a three goal, fourth quarter deficit only to fall 9-8 at Mercy College in today's 2015 season-opener. The game was tied four times, but the host Mavericks (2-0) got the one last period strike they needed to hold on for the win.

Senior attack Kevin Fleming scored three goals and added an assist, while fellow senior attack Colin Sorber and senior midfielder Kris Miller had two strikes apiece to lead the Golden Knights. Senior attack Evan Helming added the final tally, while Sorber and Helming each had an assist as well.

Between the posts, senior Nick Longo and sophomore Joe Shapiro each played one half and made 10 saves collectively.

Mercy scored four unanswered goals to transform a 5-4 deficit into an 8-5 advantage, before Sorber and Miller struck within the opening six minutes of the fourth quarter to bring Saint Rose (0-1) to within one. Senior midfielder Kevin Glueckert then scored for the Mavericks with 8:05 to go for what held up as the game-winner, although the contest was far from over at that juncture.

Fleming subsequently struck for the third time with 2:19 left to once again make it a one goal contest after Miller rattled the post and Fleming's initial shot went wide.

Freshman midfielder Lucas Frese then won the ensuing faceoff to afford the Golden Knights another possession, but Mercy forced a turnover and was able to kill the clock over the final two minutes.

Junior midfielder Robert Rossi had a pair of goals and an assist, and sophomore midfielder Nick Wilcox also scored twice for the Mavericks who had eight different players register at least a point.

Looking ahead, both teams are scheduled to be back in action Saturday. The Golden Knights are set to host fourth-ranked Adelphi for their Northeast-10 Conference opener at 2:00 pm, while the Mavericks have a trip to Seton Hill for a 1:00 pm start in Greensburg, PA.
