GREAT SHOOTING EFFORT PROPELS GOLDEN KNIGHTS PAST LE MOYNE

Highlights
ALBANY-The College of Saint Rose shot better than 50.0 percent from the floor for the second consecutive game and recorded 20 assists on its 30 field goals to defeat Upstate Challenge rival Le Moyne 82-71 in Northeast-10 Conference action today at the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium. In the process, the Golden Knights (9-16/7-11 NE-10) ran their win streak to four games heading into the final week of the regular-season.

Freshman guard Jalaun Taylor had a perfect shooting afternoon, freshman forward Jack Jones ascended the 20 point plateau for the second consecutive game and junior forward Chris Dorgler tied his career-high with seven helpers to pace Saint Rose.

Jones wound up with 21 points while Taylor went 6-for-6 from the floor on the way to 17 points and Player of the Game honors from the Capital District Chapter of the Saint Rose Alumni Association. He also hauled in seven rebounds while Dorgler finished with 14 points, six boards and four steals in addition to his seven assists.

As a team, the Golden Knights converted 58.8 percent (30-for-51) of their field goals, including 65.2 percent (15-for-23) in the second half, and got 31 points from their bench.

Regardless, the win did not come easy. It was a one or two possession game throughout most of the first half until Jones knocked down a 3-pointer to afford Saint Rose a 10 point, 31-21, lead with 3:46 showing on the clock. However, Le Moyne (14-1/8-10 NE-10) closed the period on a 12-5 run and freshman guard Tanner Hyland drained a trey at the buzzer to get the Dolphins to within three, 36-33, at intermission.

It was still a one possession game with 11:09 left when Saint Rose put itself in the catbird seat behind a 19-6 run that afforded the Golden Knights a 16 point, 72-56, advantage with 4:57 to go. Dorgler reeled off seven consecutive Saint Rose points to spearhead the charge and freshman center Sam Eckstrom capped it with a layup off a Dorgler feed.

Le Moyne subsequently got no closer than nine points the rest of the way.

Junior guard Qwadere Lovell and Hyland led a balanced Dolphins attack with 15 points apiece. Freshman guard Russell Sangster finished with 12 while senior forward Ryan Romich and sophomore forward Stan Buczek added 11 each.

Looking ahead, Saint Rose will travel to Long Island on Wednesday for a 7:30 pm league meeting at Adelphi. Meanwhile, Le Moyne has a 7:00 pm non-conference home date versus Gannon that same evening.
