UPSTATE CHALLENGE RIVAL LE MOYNE UPENDS GOLDEN KNIGHTS

ALBANY-Le Moyne shot 52.9 percent (27-for-51) from the floor and went 15-for-16 from the foul line to upend Upstate Challenge rival The College of Saint Rose 73-53 in Northeast-10 Conference action this afternoon.

Senior center Mariah Lesure scored 23 points, one shy her season-high, in just 29 minutes due to foul trouble to lead the Golden Knights (11-13/7-11 NE-10). She furthermore handed out three assists and came up with three blocks and a pair of steals. Also, senior guard Gabie Polce contributed nine points.

Le Moyne went on a 10-0 run with 12:01 left in the first half that transformed an 18-15 lead into a 28-15 advantage three minutes later. The Dolphins then increased their cushion to 15 points, 39-24, with 3:06 left after senior forward Tessa Pucello banked home a 3-pointer. Saint Rose subsequently closed the half with a 9-2 spurt to cut its deficit to 41-33 at intermission.

However, the Dolphins (15-10/9-9 NE-10) put themselves in the driver's seat with a 15-4 jaunt in the opening five minutes of the second stanza that turned a nine point, 46-37, lead into a 20 point, 61-41, advantage with 11:29 to go. The Golden Knights got no closer than within 17 the rest of the way.

Senior forward Emily Greer finished with 16 points, 10 rebounds and four assists; while junior guard Vandell Andrade tossed in 21 points and senior guard Alex Marple added 13 for the Dolphins who snapped a five-game skid.

Prior to today's game, senior guards Jamie Hutcheson and Danielle DePierro, and senior forward Jess DeNicola were honored as part of Senior Day festivities along with Lesure and Polce. Hutcheson was also recognized as the Capital District Chapter of the Saint Rose Alumni Association Player of the Game.

Looking ahead, the Golden Knights will travel to Long Island on Wednesday for a 5:30 pm league meeting at Adelphi. Meanwhile, Le Moyne has a 7:00 pm non-league road date at Gannon on Tuesday.
