GOLDEN KNIGHTS UPSET ASSUMPTION ON THE ROAD

WORCESTER, Mass –Double-digit figures from four different players allowed The College of Saint Rose women's basketball team to claim a 62-58 win over favored Assumption Wednesday evening in Northeast-10 Conference action.

The Golden Knights moved to 5-8 overall, and 2-5 in the NE-10 with the win, while the Greyhounds (10-3, 5-3), who received votes in this week's WBCA Coaches Poll, dropped just their third game of the season.

Senior guards Gabie Polce and Jamie Hutcheson led Saint Rose with 12 and 13 points, respectively, followed by sophomore forward Staci Barrett with 11 and senior forward Mariah Lesure with 10. Lesure also led in rebounds with eight, while Hutcheson nabbed five and dished out four assists and a team-high six steals.

With a back-and-forth battle throughout the entire game, Saint Rose started out quick with a 4-0 lead. Assumption followed with a pair of layups to tie the game for the first of 10 times. The Greyhounds led for most of the half until junior guard Nicole Bini put the Golden Knights up by one with a huge 3-pointer at the 7:23 mark. The Greyhounds regained the lead off a pair of free throws from junior guard Kelly Conley. Both teams traded the lead to follow, with Assumption pushing ahead by three at the 3:41 mark, and holding for the remainder of the first period.

The second half posed a similar script as the first as neither team could move ahead by more than four. The Greyhounds held their lead from the half until the 16:43 mark when junior guard Tyler Hansen sank a 3-pointer. Saint Rose held the advantage until 11:12 when senior forward Caitlin Ackerman put up a layup to lead by one. Both teams traded the lead from there until the final tie at 1:16. Lesure sank a layup with a minute remaining, and the Golden Knights maintained the lead for the rest of the game.

Saint Rose returns home on Saturday after a five-game road stint to host Franklin Pierce at 1:30 pm, followed by a 5:30 pm match-up with Merrimack on Tuesday. Both games are set to play in Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium.
