SAINT ROSE SUFFERS A TOUGH LOSS AT ASSUMPTION

WORCESTER, MA—Host Assumption scored nine of the game's final 11 points to hand The College of Saint Rose a 47-46 setback in Northeast-10 Conference action tonight. Sophomore guard Kamili Bey finished inside with 12 seconds left for what proved to be the game-winning bucket as the Golden Knights (5-10/3-5 NE-10) were unable to get a clean look out of an ensuing timeout.

Saint Rose outrebounded the Greyhounds (6-7/3-5 NE-10) 13-5 from the offensive glass that led to an 11-3 differential in second chance points, but Assumption held the Golden Knights to 27.6 percent (8-for-29) shooting in the second half.

Freshman center Sam Eckstrom and freshman forward Jack Jones led Saint Rose offensively. Eckstrom finished with 12 points, on 6-for-9 shooting from the floor, and also recorded six rebounds, two blocks and a pair of steals; while Jones tossed in 10 points and tied his season-best with eight boards.

For Assumption, junior forward Karl Ziegler went 9-for-13 from the field on the way to a game-high 20 points, while Bey added 10.

Ziegler broke a second half, five minute opening scoring drought by both teams to expand the Greyhounds cushion to six points, 30-24. Freshman guard Jalaun Taylor then finished his own steal to ignite a 15-4 Golden Knights jaunt that afforded them a five point, 39-34, advantage with 8:57 to go after Jones capped it with a 3-pointer. It was four point game five minutes later when junior guard Max Weaver converted a pair from the stripe that made it 44-38 Saint Rose with 2:27 remaining.

Bey then hit 3-of-4 during a pair of trips to the line and junior guard Terrance Bobb-Jones converted a layup to get the Greyhounds to within one, 44-43, following a Saint Rose turnover. Eckstrom scored inside to make it a three point affair, but Ziegler drained a jumper and Bey scored the winner after Saint Rose came up empty on its previous possession.

Looking ahead, both teams are back on the floor for NE-10 action Saturday. Saint Rose returns home for the first time in three weeks for a 3:30 pm meeting with Franklin Pierce, while the Greyhounds have a 1:30 pm date at New Haven.
