LATE FIRST HALF RUN LEADS FRANKLIN PIERCE PAST SAINT ROSE

ALBANY-Franklin Pierce turned 22 miscues by The College of Saint Rose into 33 points to upend the Golden Knights 72-62 in Northeast-10 Conference action today at the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium.

Junior guard Chris Dorgler and freshman center Sam Eckstrom both recorded career-highs to lead Saint Rose. Dorgler went 4-for-8 from the arc on the way to 22 points, while Eckstrom tossed in 12 of his 16 points in the second period. The former also had eight rebounds and three assists.

Franklin Pierce (10-5/5-3 NE-10) closed the first half with 13 unanswered points to go in the locker room up 10, 35-25, at intermission. The Ravens picked up right where they left off out of the break by scoring 15 of the period's initial 21 points that yielded a comfortable 19 point, 50-31, cushion with 13:38 to play. The Golden Knights (5-11/3-6 NE-10) were never able to cut their deficit to single digits the rest of the way.

Saint Rose got off on the right foot by recording the game's first seven points. However, the Ravens responded with a 15-2 run to go up six, 15-9, with 10:41 to go. The Golden Knights then went back up as Eckstrom sandwiched a pair of layups around back-to-back 3-pointers from Dorgler and freshman guard Maksis Uskans that made it 19-15 Saint Rose with 7:54 left.

The Golden Knights were still up three, 25-22, five minutes later when the Ravens charged ahead to assume control.

Senior forward Ryen Vilmont and senior guard Paul Becklens led four Franklin Pierce double-digit scorers with 18 points apiece. Sophomore guard Donte Gittens tossed in 17, while junior guard Tyler Iacuone added 10.

Looking ahead, Saint Rose is back home Tuesday to host NE-10 rival Merrimack at 7:30 pm. The game may be seen live on www.gogoldenknights.tv. Meanwhile, the Ravens are off until next Saturday, January 17 when they will host New Haven at 3:30 pm.
