SPRINGFIELD, Mass.–Despite a mid-second-half run from The College of Saint Rose women's basketball team in Saturday afternoon's battle with American International, the Golden Knights dropped a 58-50 decision in
Northeast-10 Conference action at Henry A. Butova Gymnasium.
With the loss, the Golden Knights dropped to 4-8 overall, 1-5 in the NE-10, while the Yellow Jackets improved to 6-7, 2-4.
Senior guard
Gabie Polce led Saint Rose with 12 points, fellow guard
Jamie Hutcheson just missed the double-double with nine points and a team-best 14 boards. Hutcheson also led with four assists, nabbed a pair of steals and went 3-for-5 from the line.
Senior forward
Mariah Lesure put Saint Rose ahead right at tip-off with a layup, but three unanswered buckets from the Yellow Jackets put them ahead by four, and took away the only lead of the game for the Golden Knights. AIC kept pushing with a 15-10 run to lead by as much as nine at the 7:46 mark. Saint Rose grabbed nine points compared to six from AIC to close out the half, trailing 27-21.
AIC's junior center Sydney Tepley and Polce traded baskets to open the second half. AIC put Saint Rose at an arm's length with a 10-point advantage at three different times, within three minutes of each other, the last with 9:02 remaining. The Golden Knights followed with a 10-2 spurt to come within two with 5:33 left, but AIC outshot Saint Rose 11-5 down the stretch to come away with the win.
The Golden Knights remain on the road with an NE-10 contest on Wednesday at Assumption with a 5:30 pm tip-off, followed by a three-game home stretch starting on Saturday, January 10 against Franklin Pierce at 1:30 pm.
