GOLDEN KNIGHTS COME UP JUST SHORT AGAINST SAINT ANSELM

Highlights
ALBANY-The College of Saint Rose made a furious comeback late in the game and shot 55.6 percent (30-for-54) from the floor only to fall short as visiting Northeast-10 Conference rival Saint Anselm hung on for a 77-74 win this afternoon.

The Golden Knights (5-14/3-9 NE-10) scored 12 unanswered points to cut a 13 point deficit, 75-62, to one with 1:57 to go, but then went scoreless the rest of the away to allow the Hawks to chalk up their fourth win in the last five games.

After senior guard Max Weaver went 1-for-2 from the foul line to make it a 75-74 ballgame with 1:57 to go, both teams came up empty on their next two trips up the floor. Saint Anselm (12-5/9-4 NE-10) senior guard Rob Mabrey then missed the front end of a one-and-one to afford Saint Rose another chance. However, the Golden Knights turned the ball over on their next possession and sophomore forward Harrison Taggart canned a pair from the foul line with 12 ticks showing to account for the final margin.

The Golden Knights had one more opportunity, but freshman forward Jalaun Taylor could not get his 3-pointer to go down with one second left.

Freshman forward Jack Jones tied his season with 18 points and Taylor finished with 16 to lead the Saint Rose offense. Also, junior forward Chris Dorgler contributed 12 points, five rebounds and four assists; while freshman center Sam Eckstrom added 10 points to run his double-digit scoring streak to six games.

Taggart and junior guard Victor Joshua tossed in 18 apiece to pace Saint Anselm, while Mabrey and fellow senior guard March Schulze contributed 15 and 13 respectively.

Today was the College's annual Coaches vs. Cancer and Pink Zone event. The Golden Knights raised more than $1700 in the fight against cancer throughout the afternoon.

Looking ahead, Saint Rose is back home Wednesday to host Bentley for Academic Appreciation Night. Tip-off for the second half of the NE-10 doubleheader is set for 7:30 pm. Meanwhile, the Hawks are off until next Saturday, January 31, when they host American International at 3:30 pm.
