SAINT ROSE VICTORIOUS IN BATTLE OF THE KNIGHTS


COLCHESTER, VT–The College of Saint Rose egistered four different players in double figures Wednesday evening as it defeated Saint Michael's College 74-56 in a Northeast-10 Conference match at Ross Sports Center.

Sophomore forward Staci Barrett just missed the double-double as she led the Golden Knights (8-9/4-7 NE-10) with 16 points and nine rebounds. Senior guards Jamie Hutcheson and Gabie Polce followed with 15 and 14 points, respectively. Hutcheson also dished out four assists and went 4-for-4 from the line.  

After a neck-and-neck battle through the opening 10 minutes of the first half, Saint Rose went on a 19-2 run to hold a 33-16 advantage with just 3:35 remaining before the break. The Purple Knights (8-8/3-8 NE-10) closed out the half on an 8-2 spurt as Saint Rose held the upper hand, 35-24, when time expired.

The Golden Knights burst out of the break and kept their momentum going with a 13-3 run in the first seven minutes. Saint Rose kept Saint Michael's at an arm's length through the remainder of the game as it built its lead to as high as 23, 66-43, at the 5:47 mark. The Purple Knights closed out the contest on a 13-8 spurt, but it would not be enough as the Golden Knights came away with the win.

Saint Rose returns home for a pair of games beginning on Saturday at 1:30 pm against Saint Anselm in the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium. It will be the annual WBCA PinkZone game with all gate receipts going towards the fight againt cancer. The Golden Knights then host Bentley on Wednesday, January 28 at 5:30 pm, before hitting the road on Saturday, January 31 to visit Stonehill.
