SPRINGFIELD, MA-The College of Saint Rose rebounded from a 15 point deficit midway through the second half only to fall just short in a 68-62 setback at
Northeast-10 Conference rival American International tonight.
Junior guards
Gabie Polce and
Jamie Hutcheson scored 19 and 16 points respectively to lead the Golden Knights (9-12/4-11 NE-10). The duo also combined for nine assists.
After a see-saw first half that featured 10 lead changes and three ties, the Yellow Jackets (14-7/8-7 NE-10) outscored the Golden Knights 21-10 throughout the opening 11 minutes of the second stanza to go up 60-45 with 8:58 remaining. However, Polce knocked down a jumper off a feed from senior guard
Desiree Simmons to account for two of her 10 points in a 17-4 jaunt that brought Saint Rose to within a bucket, 64-62, with 2:08 left.
Unfortunately, American International scored six unanswered points the rest of the way to improve to 7-2 at home.
Junior forward Krista Ferrentino scored 14 points to lead a balanced Yellow Jackets attack. Freshman guard Imani Stepney had 12 points and nine rebounds while senior guard Sarah Nobel and sophomore guard Brianna Bishop contributed 11 points apiece.
Looking ahead, both teams have 1:30 pm conference dates this Saturday. The Golden Knights will host New Haven for their annual PinkZone game, while the Yellow Jackets will travel to Pleasantville, NY to take on Pace University. All gate proceeds from Saturday's Saint Rose game will be donated towards the fight against cancer. The contest may also be seen live on
