SAINT ROSE PLAYS HOST TO STONEHILL ON ALUMNI DAY

Sophomore guard Nicole Bini and the Golden Knights welcome Stonehill today for a 1:30 pm tip.

The Plot: The College of Saint Rose looks to protect home court this afternooon with a  Northeast-10 Conference game versus Stonehill.

Alumni Day: Saint Rose alumni are eligble for $3 admission tickets. Additioanlly, following the conclusion of today's game, the Capital District Alumni Association Player of the Game Award will be presented to a Golden Knight.

Last Time Out: Host and top-ranked Bentley led wire-to-wire to upend Saint Rose 80-49 Wednesday night during Northeast-10 Conference play. The Golden Knights were held to 35.0 percent (21-for-60) shooting from the floor and went just 4-for-6 (66.7 percent) from the charity stripe. Junior center Jess DeNicola scored 13 points on 6-for-12 shooting and grabbed five rebounds in 18 minutes off the bench, while junior guard Jamie Hutcheson tied a season-best 12 rebounds with four points, four assists and three steals.

Last Meeting (1/19/13): Saint Rose gave Stonehill everything it could handle throughout the first half, but the host Skyhawks asserted themselves at the outset of the second period to upend the visiting Golden Knights 63-53. Saint Rose held the Skyhawks to 23 first half points by turning the ball over a mere six times and outrebounding Stonehill, which was ranked #23 in the USA Today/WBCA Poll at the time, by a 13-3 margin on the offensive glass. The latter subsequently led to 16 second chance points and a 34-23 lead at intermission. However, the Skyhawks manufactured a 20-3 run out the locker room that put them ahead by nine, 43-37, with 11:48 to go. They never trailed again although the Golden Knights got back to within two, 43-41, after Maria Sanchez Gonzalez converted a layup with 10:40 remaining. Saint Rose was still within three, 51-48, when sophomore guard Nicole Bini knocked down a 3-pointer at the 5:49 mark. However, Stonehill responded with nine unanswered points that made it a 12-point, 60-48, affair with 1:47 to go. Bini finished with 22 points. Senior forward Asia Ewing wound up with 12 points and eight boards to lead a balanced Stonehill attack. Junior guard Amy Pelletier also had a dozen, while junior forward Tori Faieta and sophomore guard Paige Marshall tossed in 10 apiece.

Scouting Saint Rose (9-10/4-9 NE-10): Senior guard Desiree Simmons was named the NE-10 Player of the Week while freshman forward Staci Barrett was honored as the Rookie of the Week on Monday. The Golden Knights are holding opponents to 38.4 percent shooting from the floor. That effort is helped by 4.2 blocks per-game, second most in the conference. Saint Rose continues to lead the league with 24.7 free throw attempts per-game.

Scouting Stonehill (12-5/9-4 NE-10): The Skyhawks have won five of their last six games. Stonehill leads the NE-10 in 3-pointers made per-game (8.9), 3-pointers attempted (22.1), and 3-point field goal percentage (40.3). The Skyhawks are also second in the league with a 75.7 free throw percentage. Senior guard Mary Louise Dixon (16.7 ppg) and junior guard Amy Pelletier (15.4 ppg) are both ranked among the top-eight scorers in the conference. Dixon is also second in assists (5.9 apg).

Up Next: Both teams are on the road this Wednesday for 5:30 pm contests as Saint Rose travels to Springfield, MA to face American International while Stonehill goes to North Andover, MA for a matchup with Merrimack.
