Last time we met: The Chargers collected 36 points in each half to defeat Saint Rose 72-62 in Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium last February. UNH registered a 50 percent shooting effort in the second half, while the Golden Knights nabbed 38 points in the paint, and 21 off the bench. Senior guard Aquillin Hayes led New Haven as she shot 10-for-14 from the floor to nail down 25 points, and collected 13 boards for the double-double. Fellow classmates Bria Moore and Elizabeth Cruso each added 12 points, and a combined eight rebounds. Senior guard Jamie Hutcheson and sophomore forward Staci Barrett paced the Saint Rose offense with 17 and 12 points, respectively. Hutcheson also grabbed 10 boards for the double-double, and led with five steals and six assists.
Scouting Saint Rose (3-5, 1-4 NE-10): The Golden Knights have dropped their last two contests, both by five points or less. Barrett leads Saint Rose with a 12.1 scoring average, while her .625 free throw mark ranks second behind senior guard Gabie Polce with .688. Barrett ranks 10th in the conference in field goal percentage (51.2). Hutcheson registers team-highs in rebounds (7.6) and assists (3.8) per-game. The Golden Knights post a .418 field goal percentage while averaging 62.1 points per-game, and rank seventh in the NE-10 in field goal percentage (41.8).
Scouting New Haven (6-2, 2-2 NE-10): The Chargers register just two losses so far this season, the most recent to then-ranked No. 16 Adelphi (88-73) on December 6. The only other loss comes from Northeast-10 Conference foe Pace, a team that Saint Rose collected a 54-36 win over earlier this season. Hayes ranks second in the NE-10 in points per-game (19.6), fourth in field goal percentage (55.2) and sixth in rebounds per-game (10.3). Moore chips in 13.0 points and 5.3 rebounds per contest, and junior guard Lauren Hebert registers 9.0 points and second on the team in steals with eight. UNH has claimed wins in the last four meetings between the two squads.
Up next: The Golden Knights head to the American International Tournament this weekend to face NYIT on Saturday, and Post on Sunday. Both games will tip-off at 3:30 pm from Henry A. Butova Gymnasium.
