SAINT ROSE USES BALANCED ATTACK TO UPEND ADELPHI


ALBANY-The College of Saint Rose put five players in double-figures scoring to upend visiting Northeast-10 Conference rival Adelphi 79-65 tonight. The Golden Knights (4-1/2-1 NE-10) shot 51.9 percent (14-for-27) from the floor in the second half and committed only nine turnovers throughout the evening.
 
Saint Rose opened the second stanza with a 13-2 run that transformed a 35-31 lead at the break into a 15 point, 48-33, advantage with 14:06 remaining. The Panthers (0-4/0-3 NE-10) got to within six, 57-51, after senior forward Duane Morgan drained a 3-pointer with 6:41 left. Three minutes later, freshman center Sam Eckstrom finished inside to make it an 11 point, 67-56, affair. It subsequently remained a three possession game the rest of the way.
 
Freshman forward Jack Jones and junior forward Chris Dorgler scored 16 and 15 points respectively to lead the Saint Rose scoring parade. Junior guard Max Weaver wound up with 14 points, eight rebounds and five assists; while Eckstrom and freshman guard Jamaal Greenwood had 13 and 11 points respectively.
 
As for Adelphi, junior guard Anthony Libroia tossed in 17 points, Morgan scored 15 and junior center Ryan DeNicola added 10.
 
Up next, Saint Rose will participate in the IRMC/Urgicare Classic at Indiana University of Pennsylvania this Saturday and Sunday, November 29 and 30. The Golden Knights will meet Pitt.-Johnstown on Saturday at 2:30 pm and then face the host Crimson Hawks on Sunday at 4:30 pm. Meanwhile, the Panthers travel to Rochester Saturday for a 2:00 pm non-league date at Roberts Wesleyan.
