HOT SHOOTING LE MOYNE UPENDS SAINT ROSE

SYRACUSE-Host Le Moyne shot a 61.9 percent (26-for-42) from the floor to upend The College of Saint Rose 74-64 in Northeast-10 Conference action today. The Golden Knights (2-2/1-1 NE-10) rallied from a 10 point, 24-14, deficit midway through the first half to take a 33-31 lead at the break, but the Dolphins (3-1/1-1 NE-10) went 13-for-14 from the floor in the second period to gain one-half of a point in the year-long Upstate Challenge rivalry series between the two schools.

Sophomore forward Staci Barrett finished 11-for-15 from the field on the way to a season-high 22 points for Saint Rose. Senior guard Jamie Hutcheson filled up the box score to the tune of 15 points, five rebounds and eight assists, with only one turnover; while fellow senior guard Gabie Polce tossed in 13 points.

Senior guard Alex Marple scored 25 points while junior forward Vandell Andrade wound up with 10 points, six rebounds and five assists to lead Le Moyne.

Saint Rose opened the second half on a high note as Hutcheson converted a layup and knocked down a fast break jumper to afford the Golden Knights their largest lead, 37-31, of the afternoon with 17:48 left.

However, Le Moyne countered with a 10-2 spurt to regain the lead, 41-39, with 14:16 left after Marple drained one of her four, 3-pointers. The Dolphins eventually boosted their advantage back to 12 on two occasions, before Saint Rose got to within four, 60-56, when Polce hit a jumper with 4:20 to go.

It was a still four point ballgame a minute later when Le Moyne put it away by scoring six unanswered points that boosted its cushion back to 10, 69-59, with 1:58 showing on the clock.

Up next, the Golden Knights are home this Tuesday, November 25, with a 5:30 pm home game versus conference rival Adelphi. The contest may be viewed live on www.gogoldenknights.tv. Meanwhile, the Dolphins have a 5:30 pm non-league road contest at Mansfield on Tuesday.
