LATE RUN LEADS GOLDEN KNIGHTS PAST WILMINGTON

ALBANY-The College of Saint Rose used a late run and a balanced attack to win its season-opener, 78-70, against visiting Wilmington in the opening day of the Northeast-10 Challenge this evening. The two-day, four team event is being presented by Hilton Garden Inn-Albany Medical Center.

Freshman forward Jalaun Taylor led five players in double-figures scoring with 20 points. Fellow freshman forward Jack Jones and junior guard Max Weaver finished with 16 and 11 respectively, while junior guard Chris Dorgler and freshman center Sam Eckstrom tossed in 10 each.

Meanwhile, senior guards Valentino Thompson and Prophet Kates scored 17 apiece to pace the Wildcats (0-1).

In a game that featured 10 ties and seven lead changes, Saint Rose used a 9-0 spurt with 6:44 left that transformed a 61-60 lead into a 70-60 margin with 2:48 to go. The Golden Knights then made all six of their free throws throughout the final 30 seconds to seal it.

Eckstrom put back at Jones miss to ignite the charge, Taylor converted a three-point play off of a Wilmington turnover, Dorgler finished inside and freshman guard Maksis Uskans knocked down a jumper to cap it.

In tonight's first game, NE-10 rival Le Moyne upended Bloomfield 81-77. Senior guard Nate Gause finished with 30 points for the Dolphins.

Up next, the Golden Knights will host Bloomfield at 5:00 pm tomorrow following the 3:00 pm Le Moyne-Wilmington contest as the annual season opening tournament wraps up. Saint Rose will play its Northeast-10 Conference opener this Wednesday, November 19, at Pace University. Tip-off is set for 7:30 pm.
