Box Score
ALBANY-The College of Saint Rose rallied from a late 20 point deficit, but ran out of time in tonight's 68-61 setback to
Northeast-10 Conference rival Assumption at the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium. The Golden Knights (8-6/3-5 NE-10) shot 53.3 percent (16-for-30) from the floor in the second half to help their cause.
Saint Rose eventually whittled its deficit to 10, 61-51, and scored the game's last six points, but the Greyhounds (8-5/4-4 NE-10) did enough prior to that juncture to grab their fourth win in the last five games.
Junior center
Jess DeNicola jumped off the bench to record a "double-double" behind season-highs of 21 points and 11 rebounds to pace the Golden Knights who fell at home for only the second time this year. Senior guard
Desiree Simmons finished with 17 points and seven rebounds, while sophomore forward
Sarah Illingworth wound up with eight points and nine boards.
For Assumption, senior guard Shannon Ray tossed in 20 points to go along with five assists, while junior forward Caitlin Ackerman contributed 15 points, seven rebounds, and three helpers.
The Greyhounds got out to a fast start and were in control 17-7 midway through the first half. They subsequently went into the locker room up 32-19 at intermission and led by as much as 24, 59-35, with 7:44 to go in the ballgame.
DeNicola then finished a feed from senior guard Brittany O'Shea that sparked a 12-2 Saint Rose run and made it a 10-point ballgame with 2:04 to play. However, Ackerman drained a jumper at the other end to pretty much remove any doubt about the eventual outcome.
Looking ahead, both teams have 1:30 pm league games Saturday. The Golden Knights will head to Rindge, NH to take on Franklin Pierce, while the Greyhounds will host New Haven in Worcester, MA.
