GOLDEN KNIGHTS HAVE WIN STREAK HALTED

MANCHESTER, NH-The College of Saint Rose had its five game win streak snapped with today's 77-61 setback at Northeast-10 Conference rival Saint Anselm. The Hawks (8-5/4-4 NE-10) outscored the Golden Knights 20-9 from the foul line to chalk up their fourth victory in the past five contests.

Senior guard Desiree Simmons was in double-figures scoring for the ninth time this season with a team-high 14 points for Saint Rose (8-5/3-4 NE-10).

Three other student-athletes were also in twin-figures. Junior guard Jamie Hutcheson and freshman forward Staci Barrett finished with 11 points and seven rebounds apiece, while junior center Jess DeNicola contributed season-highs of 10 points and five boards throughout 21 minutes off the bench.

Saint Anselm led wire-to-wire and took control by outscoring the Golden Knights 20-10 throughout the final 7:51 of the first half. The spurt turned a five point, 23-18; lead into a 15 point, 43-28; advantage at intermission.

Senior forward Tori Lehr completed a three-point play and freshman guard Candace Andrews drained a jumper off a steal to ignite the run. Andrews then capped it by hitting 1-fof-2 from the foul line with 1:09 left.

Lehr wound up with 24 points and seven rebounds, while senior forward Briana Jones had 18 points and four steals to pace the Hawks.

Looking ahead, both squads have 5:30 pm conference dates this Wednesday, January 8. Saint Rose returns home to host Assumption for "Employee Night". All Saint Rose employees will be admitted free with an ID. The game may also be viewed on www.gogoldenknights.tv. Meanwhile, Saint Anselm heads to New Haven.
