SAINT ROSE HOSTS SAINT MICHAEL'S ON STUDENT-ATHLETE ACADEMIC APPRECIATION NIGHT

The Golden Knights host Saint Michael's tonight at 5:30 pm during Student-Athlete Academic Appreciation Night.

The Plot: The College of Saint Rose looks to ends its current skid by welcoming Saint Michael's this evening for a  Northeast-10 Conference contest.

Student-Athlete Academic Appreciation Night: At halftime of tonight's men's game, 138 Saint Rose student-athletes will be recognized for their outstanding academic achievements throughout the past year. The ceremony is presented by Hugh Johnson Advisors LLC.

Last Time Out: Visiting Southern New Hampshire shot 52.6 percent (30-for-57) from the floor on the way to an 80-59 victory against Saint Rose on Saturday. The Penmen led wire-to-wire and in the process snapped an eight-game skid. Senior guard Desiree Simmons scored 12 points, while junior guard Gabie Polce and junior center Jess DeNicola had 10 each. DeNicola also hauled in seven boards. Sophomore forward Sarah Illingworth finished with eight points and eight rebounds throughout 24 minutes off the bench.

Last Meeting (1/26/13): Host Saint Michael's rebounded from a 13-point deficit in the first half to upend Saint Rose 70-59. Sophomore guard Nicole Bini scored 13 points that included four, 3-pointers.  Meanwhile, Emily Trapp tied her career-high with 12 points in 18 minutes off the bench.  Simmons and Jessica Walton each hauled in nine rebounds. Megan Olsen led the Purple Knights behind 31 points on 10-of-17 shooting from the floor and a 7-of-9 performance from the charity stripe. Senior forward Alexa Long added a 'double-double' of 10 points and 12 rebounds. Saint Michael's used 13 steals to help force 22 Saint Rose turnovers that resulted in 28 points.

Scouting Saint Rose (8-9/3-8 NE-10): DeNicola has scored in double-digits in four of the past five games at an average of 12.8 points per-game. The Golden Knights are averaging a league leading 25.0 free throw attempts per-outing. Additionally, they are holding opponents to 37.9 percent shooting from the field, the third best mark in the NE-10. Saint Rose is 0-5 in the month of January after going 5-0 in December.

Scouting Saint Michael's (3-11/2-8 NE-10): Saint Michael's fell 82-71 on Saturday at Southern Connecticut State. Long posted her seventh "double-double" of the season with 16 points and 10 rebounds. She is one of two players in the NE-10 averaging double-figures in both scoring and rebounding. The Purple Knights three victories this season have come by an average of 2.0 points. Saint Michael's is 0-5 in road contests.
