WORCESTER, MA – A run midway through the second half allowed host Assumption to upend The College of Saint Rose 68-58 earlier tonight in a Northeast-10 Conference game.  The Golden Knights (9-15/6-14 NE-10) were outscored in the second half 42-31 after leading by one, 27-26, at the break.

Sophomore guard Gabie Polce scored in double-figures for the seventh straight game, finishing with a team-high 16 points coupled with three assists.  Freshman guard Nicole Bini contributed 15 points while sophomore center Mariah Lesure chipped in 13 points in a like number of minutes.  Furthermore, senior forward Maria Sanchez Gonzalez grabbed 18 rebounds to tie a career-high and help Saint Rose control a 48-27 advantage on the boards.

For the Greyhounds (18-6/15-5 NE-10), senior guard Gabrielle Gibson fell one point shy of career high as she finished with 31 points, 20 in the second half, that included a 6-of-11 performance from beyond the arc.  Senior forward Sabrina Siciliano created seven of the Greyhound's 16 steals.  Assumption used those 16 steals to help force 27 Saint Rose turnovers that translated into 25 points.

Saint Rose led for 15 minutes during the first half before Gibson converted a three-point play on a jumper and a free throw to afford Assumption a 26-25 advantage with 15 seconds on the clock.  However, the Golden Knights quickly regained the lead on a Bini jumper that counted as the last basket of the half.  Bini and Lesure tied for the team-high of eight points in the opening period.

In a five and half minute span in the second half, Assumption created an 18-5 run to overtake the lead at 50-43 with nearly nine minutes remaining.  Saint Rose climbed back to lead 54-52 four minutes later, but were able to only covert one field goal during the last five minutes as the Greyhounds closed the game on a 14-4 spurt.  Also, Assumption did not surrender a turnover in the closing period.

Looking ahead, both teams will be in action at 1:30 pm Saturday for NE-10 meetings. Saint Rose hosts rival American International for “Senior Day,” while Assumption travels to Pleasantville, NY to face Pace University.
