NEW HAVEN – The College of Saint Rose held host Southern Connecticut State to 27.7 percent (18-for-65) shooting from the floor on the way to a 66-51
Northeast-10 Conference victory today at the James W. Moore Fieldhouse. In the process, the Golden Knights (9-12/6-11 NE-10) ran their win streak to three games.
Freshman guard
Nicole Bini went 4-for-6 from the arc on the way to a team-high 15 point for Saint Rose. Sophomore guard
Gabie Polce finished with 14 points, three assists and a pair of steals while sophomore center
Mariah Lesure wound up with 13 points in 15 minutes of reserve duty. Furthermore, senior forward
Maria Sanchez Gonzalez added eight points, 11 boards and three blocks.
Freshman forward Jackie Bethea paced the Owls (6-14/3-14 NE-10) with 17 points and 12 rebounds.
The Golden Knights fell behind 12-0 in the opening four and one-half minutes, but then outscored Southern Connecticut State 34-14 the rest of the way to walk in the locker room up 34-26 at the break.
The Owls started out quick in the second half as well by outscoring Saint Rose 18-8 to forge a 44-42 lead with 12:40 remaining.
The Golden Knights boosted their advantage back to five, 51-46, three minutes later after Bini drained a trey. Southern Connecticut State freshman forward Danielle Powell then hit a jumper to make it a three point, 51-48, affair with 9:08 showing on the clock.
However, Saint Rose responded with 12 unanswered points that put the Golden Knights in control behind a 15 point, 63-48, advantage with 3:46 remaining.
Looking ahead, Saint Rose is back on the road Wednesday, February 13, with a 5:30 pm meeting at conference rival Adelphi on Long Island. Meanwhile, the Owls return home Tuesday, February 12, to host NE-10 rival Pace at 5:30 pm.
