Box Score

ALBANY-The College of Saint Rose overcame 14 second half turnovers to hold off visiting Chestnut Hill 54-47 during the second and final day of action at its own Holiday Classic. The two-day tournament was presented by Recovery Sports Grill.

Junior guard Gabie Polce went 5-for-8 from the field on the way to a game-high 14 points for the Golden Knights (8-4) who have now won five straight. Freshman forward Staci Barrett finished with 12 points and nine rebounds in 29 minutes off the bench, while senior guard Brittany O'Shea tied her career high with seven assists.

Saint Rose held the Griffins (1-9) to 29.6 percent (8-for-27) shooting to walk into the locker room up 14, 35-21, at intermission. However, Chestnut Hill hung around at the onset of the second stanza and then scored seven unanswered points to cut a 12 point, 44-32, deficit to five, 44-39, with 9:18 remaining. Sophomore guard Brittany McDonough knocked down a trey to cap the jaunt.

The Golden Knights subsequently pushed their advantage to eight or nine on three occasions, but the Griffins answered to get back to within five each time. Barrett eventually scored off a feed from junior guard Jamie Hutcheson with 1:32 left to account for the final tally.

Senior forward Annie Farrow scored 13 points, behind 5-for-6 shooting from the floor, to lead the Chestnut Hill scoring parade. Junior guard Shayla Felder and McDonough added 12 and 10 respectively.

In today's first game, American International upended Dominican 70-52. Junior forward Krista Ferrentino scored 20 points to lead the Yellow Jackets (8-3), while freshman guard Shannon McGill tossed in a dozen to pace Dominican (3-7).

Looking ahead, the Golden Knights are off until the New Year. Saint Rose gets back to Northeast-10 Conference action on Saturday, January 4 at Saint Anselm. Tip-off is set for 1:30 pm. Meanwhile, Chestnut Hill returns to the court on Thursday, January 2 for a 6:00 pm home game versus Central Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Conference rival Holy Family.
