GOLDEN KNIGHTS UPEND DOMINICAN ON FIRST DAY OF HOLIDAY CLASSIC

ALBANY-The College of Saint Rose held visiting Dominican to 10 points throughout the final 11 minutes en route to a 67-51 victory during the first day of action at its own Holiday Classic this afternoon. In the process, the Golden Knights ran their win streak to four games and improved to 4-1 at home. The two-day tournament is being presented by Recovery Sports Grill.

Saint Rose helped its cause by outrebounding the Chargers (3-6) 44-29, including 17-7 on the offensive glass.

Junior center Mariah Lesure led all scorers with 18 points to go along with six rebounds and three blocks. Freshman forward Staci Barrett went 6-for-7 from the floor on the way to a season-high 14 points throughout 23 minutes of reserve duty.

Also, senior guard Desiree Simmons recorded her second career "double-double" with 10 points and 10 rebounds while junior guard Gabie Polce added nine points and handed our five assists without a turnover.

Saint Rose took off on a 15-2 run with 11:06 to go that turned a 44-41 ballgame into a 59-43 affair with 6:44 showing on the clock. Polce knocked down a 3-pointer to ignite the spurt, while Barrett finished a Simmons feed to cap it. The Chargers got no closer than 12 the rest of the way.

Freshman forward Lisa Bouffard tossed in 16 points while junior guard Lashonda Hawthorne and senior guard Nicole Welton added 11 and nine respectively for Dominican.

In today's second game, senior guard Sarah Noble and junior forward Krista Ferrentino scored 17 and 16 points respectively to lead American International past Chestnut Hill 76-52. Junior guard Olivia Gorcynski had a game-high 22 points for the Griffins

Looking ahead, the tournament's second and final day will take place tomorrow. The Golden Knights will meet Chestnut Hill at 2:00 pm, while American International and Dominican will tip-off at 12:00 pm.
