ALBANY-The College of Saint Rose won for the third time in the last four games and its second straight behind tonight's 58-48
Northeast-10 Conference victory against Pace University at the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium. The Golden Knights (3-2/1-1 NE-10) outrebounded the Setters (0-4/0-1 NE-10) by a 43-24 margin, including a 14-4 differential on the offensive glass that yielded a 14-6 advantage in second chance points.
Senior guard
Desiree Simmons scored a game-high 16 points in 27 minutes off the bench thanks to a 5-for-6 shooting effort from the floor to lead Saint Rose. Junior center
Mariah Lesure finished with 14 points, nine rebounds and four blocks, while junior guard
Gabie Polce added 10 points.
For Pace, sophomore forward Yuni Sher and junior guard Margo Hackett tossed in 12 points apiece.
After falling behind 13-4 with 13:26 left in the first half, the Golden Knights outscored the Setters 31-8 to walk into the locker room up 35-21 at the break. Simmons scored 12 of her16 points throughout the opening 20 minutes to lead the charge.
Saint Rose led by double-digits throughout the second stanza and boosted its margin to 21, 58-37, following a Polce 3-pointer with 4:58 left. The Setters then scored the game's final 11 points to account for the final margin.
Looking ahead, both squads have 1:30 pm home conference dates this Saturday. The Golden Knights will host
Upstate Challenge rival Le Moyne while Pace will entertain New Haven.
