Box Score

WEST HAVEN, CT–The College of Saint Rose had a halftime lead slip away as host New Haven earned a 71-68 win earlier tonight in the Northeast-10 Conference opener for both teams.

Junior guard Jamie Hutcheson nearly posted a "triple-double" with 12 points, 10 assists, and eight rebounds for the Golden Knights (1-2/0-1 NE-10). Junior guard Gabie Polce and junior center Mariah Lesure each tallied 14 points. Polce added five assists and two steals while Lesure totaled seven blocks and six rebounds, helping Saint Rose to a 51-40 rebounding advantage.

Sophomore guard Briana Bradford scored a game-high 24 points that included a 5-for-8 performance from beyond the arc. Bradford also passed out five assists while junior forward Bria Moore finished with 13 points and six rebounds. The Chargers (2-0/1-0 NE-10) forced 18 Saint Rose turnovers while only giving up nine.

The Golden Knights walked into the locker room at halftime with a 37-31 lead as Hutcheson accumulated nine points and seven assists.

Saint Rose initially jumped out to a 10-3 advantage within the first four minutes on a 3-pointer by sophomore guard Nicole Bini. The margin later grew to eight points at 24-16 as Hutcheson found sophomore forward Sarah Illingworth for a layup with less than 10 minutes remaining in the first half.

Coming out of the break, Hutcheson put Saint Rose up by nine at 40-31. However, the Chargers went on a 14-3 run to claim a 45-43 lead with more than 13 minutes remaining. After exchanging the lead five times throughout the second half and experiencing four ties, New Haven went up for good on a Bradford free throw with 9:30 left on the clock.

After Bradford only made one of two free throws with 11 seconds left to afford New Haven a three-point lead, Bini had a potential tying 3-point attempt bounce off the back rim during the final seconds.

Looking ahead, Saint Rose welcomes non-conference foe Bloomfield this Friday at 3:00 pm for the 2013-14 home-opener. Meanwhile, New Haven is back in action next Wednesday, November 20 when the Chargers host NE-10 rival Le Moyne at 5:30 pm.
