STRONG SECOND HALF PROPELS GOLDEN KNIGHTS PAST SAINT ANSELM

ALBANY – The College of Saint Rose shot 42.3 percent (11-for-26) from the floor and 50.0 percent (6-for-12) from the arc throughout the second half en route to a 63-54 victory against Northeast-10 Conference rival Saint Anselm this evening at the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium. The Golden Knights (5-7/2-6 NE-10) furthermore bolstered their fortunes by limiting the Hawks (4-8/1-7 NE-10) to 25.0 percent (7-for-28) shooting during the final 20 minutes.

Freshman guard Nicole Bini went 5-for-7 from long range to lead the second half surge. Bini scored 17 of her season-high 27 points in the final stanza and finished 10-for-17 from the floor, 7-for-11 from the arc, for the game.

Additionally, sophomore guard Gabie Polce wound up with 11 points while sophomore forward Mariah Lesure finished with 10 points and eight rebounds in 19 minutes off the bench. Junior guard Brittany O'Shea handed out a career-best seven assists, without a turnover, during 22 minutes of reserve duty.

As for Saint Anselm, junior guard Ashley Viselli finished with 12 points and junior forward Briana Jones added 10.

After allowing a nine point, first half lead to slip away, Saint Rose used a 21-4 run midway through the second period that transformed a four point, 39-35, deficit into a 13 point, 56-43, advantage with 8:12 remaining. The Golden Knights subsequently owned a double-digit lead for all but the final six seconds.

Lesure ignited the jaunt by finishing in the paint and converting a layup that put Saint Rose ahead to stay, 42-41, with 12:48 left. Bini then took over by knocking down four treys within a three-minute span, the last of which made it a 13 point, 56-43, affair with 8:12 to go. The Hawks never really threatened from that point forward.

Looking ahead, both teams have 1:30 pm conference dates on tap for Saturday. The Golden Knights will head to Easton, MA to take on Stonehill, while Saint Anselm will host American International in Manchester, NH.
