Freshman guard Nicole Bini scored 22 points in today's 63-53 setback at 23rd ranked and NE-10 rival Stonehill.
Box Score

EASTON, MA – The College of Saint Rose gave Northeast-10 Conference rival Stonehill everything it could handle throughout the first half, but the host Skyhawks asserted themselves at the outset of the second period to upend the Golden Knights 63-53 today at Merkert Gymnasium.

Saint Rose (5-8/2-7 NE-10) held an opponent to a season-low 23 first half points by turning the ball over a mere six times and outrebounding Stonehill, which is ranked #23 in this week's USA Today/WBCA Poll, by a 13-3 margin on the offensive glass. The latter subsequently led to 16 second chance points and a 34-23 lead at intermission.

However, the Skyhawks (12-1/8-1 NE-10) manufactured a 20-3 run out the locker room that put them ahead by nine, 43-37, with 11:48 to go. They never trailed again although the Golden Knights got back to within two, 43-41, after senior forward Maria Sanchez Gonzalez converted a layup with 10:40 remaining.

They were still within three, 51-48, when freshman guard Nicole Bini knocked down a 3-pointer at the 5:49 mark. However, Stonehill responded with nine unanswered points that made it a 12 point, 60-48, affair with 1:47 to go and pretty much removed any doubt about the eventual outcome.

Bini was in double-figures for the ninth time in her young career with 22 points to lead the Golden Knights. Sophomore forward Mariah Lesure finished with eight points and six rebounds throughout 15 minutes of reserve duty.

Junior forward Asia Ewing wound with 12 points and eight boards to lead a balanced Stonehill attack. Sophomore guard Amy Pelletier also had a dozen, while sophomore forward Tori Faieta and freshman guard Paige Marshall tossed in 10 apiece as the Skyhawks improved to 6-0 at home this year.

Looking ahead, the Golden Knights are back on the road Wednesday with a 5:30 pm conference date at Southern New Hampshire in Manchester, NH. Meanwhile, the Skyhawks have 5:30 pm meeting with visiting NE-10 rival Assumption on Tuesday.
