ALBANY, NY – The College of Saint Rose got the spring portion of their schedule off to a fantastic start with a 9-0 win versus American International on Wednesday afternoon at Kelton Courts.
Saint Rose started the afternoon by sweeping the doubles competition. In first flight doubles, junior
Jennifer Crego and senior
Erin Reeg downed seniors Talia de Souza and Amanda McLean by an 8-0 score. In second flight doubles, freshman
Lauren Romine and junior
Sarah Klein defeated freshman Margaret Barnstien and sophomore Edna Olowo by a count of 8-0 as well.
A big key to the day for Golden Knights was a quartet of newcomers who were playing in their first collegiate matches. Freshmen
Alyssa Marie Haddad and
Caitlin Beebe topped senior Jessica Hall and freshman Jasmine Byrd 8-5 in third flight doubles.
In fifth flight singles, sophomore
Keri Robinson won against Byrd by a 6-0, 6-3 final while sophomore
Kim Szkudlarek defeated Hall 6-0, 6-4.
The Golden Knights return to action on Sunday when they travel to Manchester, NH to meet Northeast-10 Conference foe Southern New Hampshire at 12:00 pm. The Yellow Jackets play next on Friday at 3:30 pm. when they head to Worcester, MA to face Assumption.
