GOLDEN KNIGHTS CONTINUE RISSE TENNIS CLINIC

ALBANY-The College of Saint Rose women's tennis team again joined with Refugee and Immigrant Support Services of Emmaus (RISSE) and Albany Tennis Club to provide tennis instruction to local youths earlier this season.

RISSE is a family-based center that supports newcomers trying to build sustainable lives in the United States by offering language and literacy instruction along with life skills and integration into culture and community.

The instruction was made possible thanks to Albany Tennis Club, the United States Tennis Association, and senior Averie Bowen.

At the clinic, the students learned about the parts of the racquet, the lines on the court, how to hit forehands and play mini tennis points. Some students even learned the basics of the serve. They also played games that required teamwork like the "tennis ball sandwich game".

"I got to see all the things that are important to me come together today," said Bowen. "Health, Saint Rose, refugee and immigrant support, and tennis! I think it's just amazing how much we can do when we are able to draw connections between people, places, and the needs that are present in the community."
