GOLDEN KNIGHTS CAPTURE WIN AT BLOOMFIELD

Senior forward Jessica Walton scored a game-high 14 points for Saint Rose in a 55-49 victory at Bloomfield.

BLOOMFIELD, NJ – The College of Saint Rose ended the 2012 calendar year on a high note with a 55-49 non-conference win at Bloomfield earlier today.  The Golden Knights (3-6) held the Lady Deacons (5-3) scoreless for the final 5:16 to preserve the victory.
 
Senior forward Jessica Walton claimed the game-high of 14 points. Walton shot 6-of-10 (60.0 percent) from the field while sophomore guard Gabie Polce added eight points, five assists, four steals, and four rebounds.  Freshman guard Tyler Hansen contributed 10 points, going 2-of-4 (50.0 percent) from beyond the arc.  As a team, the Golden Knights shot 10-of-13 (76.9 percent) from the free throw line and 42.9 percent (21-of-49) from the floor.
 
The Lady Deacons were unable to find the touch from the charity line, as they shot 5-of-16 (31.3 percent).  Junior forward Illiriana Lulgjuraj picked up 11 points, 10 in the first half, and three steals for Bloomfield, which forced 30 Saint Rose turnovers and came up with 17 steals.
 
Bloomfield grew a lead to as large as 11, 28-17, in the first half.  However, an 8-0 run brought Saint Rose to within three points five minutes before halftime.  After falling behind by six points on two ensuing occasions,  the Golden Knights managed to get to within a bucket, 33-31,  before freshman forward Iman Williams converted two free throws to give the Lady Deacons a 35-31 lead at the break.
 
Sophomore forward Mariah Lesure came off the bench and opened the scoring in the second half as Saint Rose tied it 35-35.
 
Thde Golden Knights finally took their first lead after Polce hit a pair of free throws to make it a 51-49 game with 2:22 remaining.  A Walton layup and two free throws from freshman guard Nicole Bin helped secure the win. 
 
Bloomfield shot 6-of-28 (21.4 percent) in the second half as the Golden Knights limited their second chance opportunities by outrebounding the Lady Deacons 24-13.
 
Saint Rose now enjoys the holiday break as the next game on the docket is not scheduled until Wednesday, January 2. when the Golden Knights host LIU Post for a 4:30 pm non-conference contest. It will also be “Employee Night” as all Saint Rose employees (with a valid ID) and a guest will be admitted free.  Meanwhile, Bloomfield hosts Molloy College this Monday, December 17 at 7:00 pm.
