Box Score

ALBANY – The College of Saint Rose surrendered a seven point halftime advantage that allowed visiting Northeast-10 Conference rival Adelphi to upend the Golden Knights 80-67 this evening at the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium.

The Panthers (3-2/2-1 NE-10) outscored the Golden Knights 69-42 throughout the final 28 minutes and shot 60.0 percent (18-for-30) from the floor in the second period, while holding Saint Rose (2-3/0-3 NE-10) to 28.1 percent (9-for-32) shooting.

Sophomore guard Gabie Polce finished with 19 points and five steals, and senior forward Maria Sanchez Gonzalez registered a “double-double” behind 13 points and 13 rebounds, 10 from the defensive glass, to pace Saint Rose.

At the other end, junior guard Sade Jackson nearly registered her fourth “triple-double” of the young season with 16 points, 10 assists and eight rebounds for the Panthers who have now won three of their last four. Four other Adelphi players also wound up in twin-figures scoring including sophomore guard Kelly Mannix and junior forward Jessica Kitrys who tossed in 15 points apiece and hauled in 17 boards collectively.

The Golden Knights had things going their way early on. An 11-0 jaunt midway through the opening stanza afforded them a 14 point, 25-11, advantage after freshman guard Tyler Hansen hit a layup and drained a 3-pointer. Sophomore forward Mariah Lesure then knocked down a jumper in the paint to cap the run.

However, Adelphi responded with nine answered points to cut its deficit to five, 25-20, with five minutes remaining before going in the locker room down seven, 34-27, at the break. The Panthers then scored 18 of the initial 27 second half points that yielded a 45-45 deadlock with 12:53 to play. Mannix then drained a trey to make it 48-45 Adelphi and the Panthers never trailed again.

Looking ahead, Saint Rose returns to action Saturday with a 3:30 pm conference date at Pace University in Pleasantville. Meanwhile, the Panthers are home Saturday with a 3:30 pm scheduled tip-off versus Assumption on Long Island.
