THE SERIES
Today marks 19th meeting between the two clubs that first met in Colchester on November 30, 1996. Saint Rose tied the series 9-9 behind a 72-67 win at Saint Michael's last January. The Golden Knights have now won three in a row against the Purple Knights, including two straight in Albany.
SCOUTING SAINT ROSE (10-6/7-5 NE-10)
The Golden Knights yield just 53.9 points per-game, which ranks second in the NE-10. Saint Rose is limiting opponents to a league-low 33.6 percent shooting from the floor. The Golden Knights additionally pace the NE-10 in blocks (5.1 bpg). Five players are contributing at least 5.0 points per-game led by Rath, who tosses in 17.6 points on a regular basis for the fifth-highest scoring average in the league. Rath is currently 13th on the all-time scoring list at Saint Rose (1,233). Shajuyigbe (11.8 ppg) is the lone other player contributing twin-figures. Meanwhile, senior forward Ali Johnson is adding 9.1 points, a team-high 8.4 rebounds and a league-best 2.6 blocks. Johnson is one of just six players in school annals to record more than 100 career blocks (126).
SCOUTING SAINT MICHAEL'S (7-9/4-8 NE-10)
The Purple Knights snapped a three-game skid via a 64-57 triumph versus New Haven on Tuesday. Saint Michael's used an 8-0 run throughout the final 1:07 to secure the victory. The Purple Knights rank third in the NE-10 in blocks (3.7 bpg), are fourth in FT% (75.4) and eighth in FG% (40.1). Senior guard Coreen Hennessy and Adach are the lone double-digit scorers for Saint Michael's, although six players are tossing in at least 5.8 points per-game. Hennessy contributed 13.7 points and 2.4 assists, while Adach produces 12.8 points and a team-high 7.8 boards. Saint Michael's has held seven opponents to 55-points or less this year.
HOME SWEET HOME
The Golden Knights have found great success at the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium since its renovation prior to the 2004-05 season. Saint Rose has posted a 74-25 home slate for a .747 winning percentage. Furthermore, the Golden Knights have defeated five ranked opponents on their home floor, including twice last season.
WOMEN'S SOCCER TEAM TO BE RECOGNIZED
The Saint Rose women's soccer team will be honored at halftime of today's men's game in recognition of its 2011 National Championship Campaign. The Golden Knights upended two-time defending champion Grand Valley State (MI) 2-1 on December 3 in Pensacola, FL to claim the first national team title in Saint Rose annals.
NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP TROPHY ON DISPLAY
The 2011 women's soccer national championship trophy will be on display in the atrium throughout the afternoon. Fans are encouraged to be a part of Saint Rose history by bringing their smart phones and having their picture taken with the trophy.
CAPITAL DISTRICT ALUMNI ASSOCIATION
The Saint Rose Capital District Alumni Association will present a framed certificate and a trophy to the Saint Rose student-athlete who is deemed the Player of the Game during a brief postgame ceremony following today's contest. The association will furthermore present Saint Rose head coach
Karen Haag with a check for $100 to be used towards a future away game.
The C.D. Alumni Association is also collecting donations in the atrium throughout the afternoon as part of its “Books for Troops” campaign.
