SAINT ROSE FACES SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT STATE TONIGHT

The Golden Knights are set to host Southern Connecticut State tonight at 6:30 pm at Sullivan Field
ALBANY -  The College of Saint Rose men's soccer team returns to action tonight. The Golden Knights (0-2) are set to welcome Southern Connecticut State University (0-1) to Sullivan Field for a 6:30 pm kickoff in what marks the 2011 Northeast-10 Conference opener for both squads. Saint Rose is coming off of a 2-1 loss versus Mercy on Saturday, while the Owls opened their 2011 slate with a 2-0 setback at the University of Bridgeport on Saturday.

LAST MEETING (September 28, 2010)
Host Southern Connecticut State University scored three times in each half on the way to a 6-0 Northeast-10 Conference triumph over Saint Rose last September 28. Sophomore forward Doural Scott and senior forward Cedric Panzu each had a part in four tallies for Southern. Scott finished with one goal and added an assist, while Panzu recorded a pair of strikes. Junior midfielder Ross McGibney, Harry Appiah and sophomore forward Ariel Lobo also found the back of the net for the Owls. The Golden Knights put three of their five shots on target, but to no avail. Senior keeper Patrik Ohlsson came up with four saves for Saint Rose, while senior keeper Andrew Esposito made three stops for the Owls.

SCOUTING SAINT ROSE (0-2-0/0-0-0 NE-10)
The Golden Knights endured a pair of one-goal setbacks at the Saint Rose Kick-Off Classic that was held Friday and Saturday at Sullivan Field. The Golden Knights fell 1-0 versus Nyack and then Mercy scored twice in the final 11 minutes to grab a 2-1 decision.

Junior midfielder Zak Duguay afforded Saint Rose a 1-0 lead against the Mavericks midway through the opening half for his tally in a Saint Rose uniform. Duguay finished off a feed through the box from junior forward Giancarlo Montenegro.

Ohlsson has collected nine saves and a 1.50 goals-against-average having playing all 180 minutes in goal thus far.

SCOUTING SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT STATE (0-1-0/0-0-0 NE-10)
The Owls opened their 2011 campaign with a 2-0 loss at the University of Bridgeport on Saturday despite playing a man-up for nearly 72 minutes. Both clubs finished with 14 shots and seven corner kicks in the contest. Esposito turned aside five shots to keep Southern within striking distance.

The Owls came into the year ranked #12 in the NSCAA/Continental Tire preseason poll.

Southern was selected to finish third according to the NE-10 preseason poll following a 14-2-4 record a year ago. The Owls also advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

UP NEXT
Saint Rose gets a breather before returning to league action next Tuesday. The Golden Knights will head to Assumption College for a 7:00 pm kickoff in Worcester, MA. Meanwhile, Southern returns to action Saturday when the Owls welcome Bloomfield College to New Haven, CT for their 2011 home-opener. Game time is set for 4:00 pm.
