SAINT ROSE MOVES UP TO #1; PICKS UP SECOND SHUTOUT OF 2011

Senior forward Gianna D'Errico finished with a goal and two assists in today's 5-0 triumph
Box Score ALBANY – The College of Saint Rose women's soccer team moved up two spots to become the nation's top ranked team according to the most recent NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division II Poll that was released earlier today. The Golden Knights then lived up to their billing by winning their 39th consecutive Northeast-10 Conference match via a 5-0 triumph against visiting Pace University at Sullivan Field.

Saint Rose (3-0/1-0 NE-10), which was listed #3 in the preseason poll, spent nine weeks as the top-ranked club in the country a year ago. The 1999-00 women's basketball team that reeled off an NCAA record 34 consecutive victories is the lone other Golden Knights' squad to earn a #1 national ranking.

Freshman forward Brittany Barry continued her offensive onslaught with a pair of strikes less than 10 minutes apart in the second period to lead Saint Rose. Barry's tallies sandwiched a goal by senior midfielder Brittany Godin that allowed the Golden Knights to break open what was a 2-0 game at the break.

Sophomore midfielder Sydney Bond netted her second game-winner of the year 17:37 into the contest off a corner kick from senior midfielder Christina Cuffari to get the scoring started for Saint Rose. Senior forward Gianna D'Errico added a goal and two assists as well.

Sophomore keeper Jessica Gerski and freshman keeper Lauren Minkoff each turned aside one shot in 45 minutes of action to preserve the clean sheet for the Golden Knights. Meanwhile, Pace (1-2/0-1 NE-10) junior netminder Courtany Hagen made four saves before giving way to classmate Jaclyn Drummond, who stopped two shots.

Up next, Saint Rose continues its brief two-game home stand this week. The Golden Knights are scheduled to host NE-10 rival UMass Lowell at 5:00 pm Friday evening. Pace is also back in action Friday. The Setters return home to welcome Assumption College for a 4:00 pm kickoff.
