Box Score RINDGE, NH – Host Franklin Pierce, ranked #3 in the country according to this week's NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA II Poll, used a deliberate and efficient attack to hand The College of Saint Rose a 2-0 defeat in a Northeast-10 Conference contest tonight at Sodexo Field.
Senior forward Victor Goncalves and senior midfielder Diego Tabares set up one another in each period for the Ravens (8-0/4-0 NE-10), who have now won eight in a row to start the 2011 campaign.
Goncalves initially provided the eventual game-winner in the 39th minute. He collected a feed from Tabares, dribbled down the right side and let go a blast that found the lower right corner of the net. Tabares then made it 2-0 with 38 seconds elapsed in the second stanza when he buried a centering pass in front of the goal for his second strike of the year.
The best Saint Rose scoring opportunity of the night came in the 57th minute. Freshman midfielder
Steven Anderson served a corner kick into the box that found the head of sophomore midfielder
Dylan Klippenstein. However, Klippenstein's header sailed high over the crossbar.
For Saint Rose, senior keeper
Patrik Ohlsson recorded three saves to keep the Golden Knights (0-8/0-5 NE-10) close. Meanwhile, senior keeper Vinny Papageorgiou did not need to make a save for Franklin Pierce.
Looking ahead, both clubs return to the pitch Saturday with a pair of conference matches on the docket. Saint Rose returns home to host Southern New Hampshire University at noon, while Franklin Pierce heads to Saint Anselm College for a 2:00 pm date.
