KUTZTOWN, PA – The College of Saint Rose dropped its 2011 season-opener in five sets at host Kutztown on the first of two days of action at the Kutztown Classic this afternoon. The Golden Knights (0-1) won two tiebreaking sets by taking the first and fourth by identical 28-26 scores. However, the Bears took the second and third sets 25-23 and 25-19 respectively, before securing the finale 15-7.
Senior outside hitter
Aubrey Bobo led Saint Rose with 14 kills on 36 swings to go with 14 digs, while fellow senior outside hitter
Sarah Kahrs had 11 kills and nine digs. Freshman setter
Ariana Wilson distributed a match-high 29 assists and classmate defensive specialist
Katy Daniels came up with 19 digs in their collegiate debuts.
Senior right side hitter Cait Hess paced Kutztown (2-0) with a superlative .412 hitting percentage with 16 kills and only two errors throughout 34 attack attempts. Senior libero Lindsey Smith stood out on the back row with 32 digs.
Up next, Saint Rose concludes its season-opening weekend at Kutztown tomorrow with a noon match versus C.W. Post and a 4:00 pm encounter against University of the Sciences (PA).
