Box Score ALBANY – Saint Michael's College sophomore midfielder Anthony Stanley broke a 1-1 deadlock in the 74th minute that allowed the visiting Purple Knights to hold off The College of Saint Rose men's soccer team 2-1 in a Northeast-10 Conference match-up this afternoon at Sullivan Field. It was the fifth time this season the Golden Knights suffered a one-goal decision, while Saint Michael's is now unbeaten in its last four contests.
Stanley initially got the Purple Knights (3-1-2/1-0-1 NE-10) on the board via a nifty strike with 7:46 elapsed. Sophomore midfielder Omar Khartabil centered a free kick from the left sideline that Stanley ran onto and redirected inside the far post for the early 1-0 edge.
Saint Rose (0-6-0/0-3-0 NE-10) found an answer less than 11 minutes later thanks to sophomore back
Alan McGrath. McGrath headed home a chip from sophomore back
Paxton Ballard during a scramble in front of the net.
Stanley then provided the game-winner at the 73:36 mark off of a restart in Saint Michael's defensive third. Junior midfielder Nick Colangelo sent Stanley in one-on-one with Saint Rose senior keeper
Patrik Ohlsson and slid one to the lower right corner for the final margin.
Both keepers controlled the box and kept their respective sides within reach all afternoon. Ohlsson, who entered the match third in the NE-10 in saves, wound up with seven stops. Meanwhile, junior keeper Logan Kingman turned aside three shots of his own for the Purple Knights despite surrendering his first goal in two games.
Saint Rose has a week off before heading to Saint Anselm for a league contest next Saturday. Kickoff is set for 1:00 pm in Manchester, NH. Saint Michael's returns to the pitch Wednesday afternoon when the Purple Knights welcome Bentley to Colchester, VT for a 4:00 pm NE-10 affair.
