ALBANY - The College of Saint Rose women's soccer team returns to action Saturday afternoon. The Golden Knights (5-0-1/3-0-1 NE-10) are set to welcome Assumption College (2-2-1/0-2-1 NE-10) to Sullivan Field for a 1:00 pm kickoff.
LAST MEETING (September 18, 2010)
Saint Rose scored once in each half to upend host Assumption 2-0 in a Northeast-10 Conference encounter last September 18. The Golden Knights outshot the Greyhounds by a 23-5 margin, including a 15-1 differential in shots-on-goal.
Senior forward Gianna D'Errico designed the game-winner midway through the opening period and added an insurance marker early in the second half to lead Saint Rose. D'Errico sent a cross into the box that sophomore midfielder
Sydney Bond headed home. D'Errico then found the back of the net after she knocked in a deflection that was triggered by senior midfielder
Aoife Herbert at the 58:02 mark.
Deanna Esposito was called upon to make only one save for the Golden Knights, while her counterpart Lauren Keating deflected away 13 on-target threats to keep Assumption within striking distance throughout the evening.
SCOUTING #9 SAINT ROSE (5-0-1/3-0-1 NE-10)
The Golden Knights are ranked #9 in this week's
NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division II Poll. Saint Rose possesses a potent scoring offense to go along with a defense that has allowed a mere three goals throughout six contests. The Golden Knights are averaging a league-best 4.83 goals per-game, are outshooting their opponents 114-46 and owns a 48-18 edge in corner kicks.
Freshman forward
Brittany Barry leads a balanced attack that has seen 15 players find the scoring column. Barry paces the NE-10 in points (18) and goals (9), while Bond is second in the conference in points (11) and goals (5).
Sophomore keeper
Jessica Gerski owns a 0.61 goals-against-average to go with 19 saves throughout three starts in goal.
SCOUTING ASSUMPTION (2-2-1/0-2-1 NE-10)
The Greyhounds fell 1-0 versus Southern Connecticut State on Wednesday. The visiting Owls scored with less than five minutes remaining to break a 0-0 deadlock. The two losses for Assumption this season, both in league action, have come by one goal.
Junior midfielder Nicole Savi and sophomore back Katie Lydon represent the top scoring threats for the Greyhounds. Savi leads the squad with three strikes for six points, while Lydon is close behind with two goals and one assist for five points.
Freshman keeper Rachel Edgin has started four of the club's five games in the net. She owns a 0.54 GAA, has 19 saves and one shutout under her belt as well.
UP NEXT
Both teams return to action Tuesday. Saint Rose heads to Adelphi for a 7:00 pm start in Garden City, NY. Meanwhile, Assumption returns home to host Le Moyne at 3:30 pm in Worcester, MA.
