ALBANY – The College of Saint Rose scored three times in the third inning to end its 2011 campaign on a bright note behind a 3-2 victory versus Bentley University in the backend of a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader today at Cathy Cummings Haker Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex. The Falcons (15-25/8-22 NE-10) previously won the opener 4-2 by scoring three unearned runs in the sixth inning that snapped a 1-1 tie.
Junior third baseman
Jessica Butterbrodt provided the pivotal blast for the Golden Knights (9-28-1/5-21-1 NE-10) in the finale. Butterbrodt drove a two out, two-run double to the gap in left-center that scored senior right-hander
Nicole Traylor and junior shortstop
Kayla Kuilema with the go-ahead runs. One batter earlier, Traylor made it a 1-1 ballgame with a base hit that brought around freshman center fielder
Amber Loussedes.
That proved to be enough for Traylor who fanned seven and walked only one over the distance to collect her sixth victory of the year. However, Bentley did not make it easy for Traylor. The Falcons cut their deficit in half and also brought the go-ahead run to the plate in the sixth, but Traylor came up with a strikeout to keep Saint Rose on top.
Loussedes finished 2-for-3 with a run scored to lead the Golden Knights offense. Sophomore catcher
Rachel Reed also had a base hit. Meanwhile, sophomore shortstop Stephanie Kasson went 3-for-3 with a run scored to pace Bentley.
In the opener, Loussedes finished 3-for-4 with an RBI and junior second baseman
Lindsey David went 2-for-3 with a walk for Saint Rose. Junior southpaw
Sarah Arbogast suffered the tough-luck loss. Arbogast allowed only one earned run and fanned six throughout 5.2 innings of work, before yielding the circle to Traylor who tossed 1.1 innings of no-hit ball.
Bentley sophomore second baseman Erica Thibodeau, out of Shaker High School, made the most of her homecoming by going 3-for-4 with three RBI, while freshman center fielder Jackie Gauthier finished 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored.
