ALBANY – The College of Saint Rose women's tennis team got its weekend off to a solid start with a 6-3 win over Northeast-10 Conference rival Pace University today at Kelton Courts.
Saint Rose earned its first point of the match in a tight second doubles battle. Trailing 7-6, the duo of senior
Kimberly Schacher and sophomore
Stephanie Wilhelm rallied to win three games in a row from sophomores Danielle Gore and Danielle Sidoti to take the set 9-7.
Schacher made it a double win on the day as she also took the third singles flight match, winning the first set before Sidoti retired.
The Golden Knights clinched the match with a win in second singles where senior
Missy Leighton topped freshman Liz Plakhotnaya in straight sets 7-6 (7-3), 6-1.
Wilhelm also earned a singles victory on the day for Saint Rose by upending freshman Gina Pittore 6-4, 6-3.
Saint Rose started the day with a 2-0 lead in the match due to walkovers in third doubles and sixth singles.
The Golden Knights wrap up their regular-season schedule on Sunday as they travel to Manchester, NH to take on Saint Anselm. Pace is in action on Tuesday when the Setters will host New Haven at 3:00 pm in Pleasantville.
