SAINT ROSE SNAPS SKID; SPLITS WITH STONEHILL ON SENIOR DAY

ALBANY – The College of Saint Rose softball team erased a 1-0 deficit in the opener en route to a 5-3 Northeast-10 Conference victory over Stonehill College today at Cathy Cummings Haker Field at the Christian Plumeri Sports Complex. The Skyhawks then rallied from a 5-1 shortfall of their own to take a 10-5 decision in the nightcap.

Nicole Traylor, Rosalie Serra and Ashley Fryer were honored prior to today's first game with a brief “Senior Day” ceremony to commemorate their careers on Western Avenue.

Traylor punctuated her own collegiate career by earning her fifth victory of the season (5-8) in the opener. Traylor scattered six hits, allowed a pair of earned runs and recorded a strikeout over the distance. She furthermore helped her own cause by going 1-for-2 with a run and a walk at the plate.

Saint Rose (8-27-1/4-20-1 NE-10), which snapped a season-long 11-game skid, overcame a one-run deficit by taking advantage of two Stonehill miscues in the fourth. Sophomore catcher Rachel Reed roped a single that got past the center fielder to push across a pair of runs. Reed later scored on a fielder's choice by Fryer to make it a 3-1 ballgame.

The Golden Knights added to their cushion by plating two more in the fifth. Traylor came across on an RBI single by junior shortstop Kayla Kuilema. Reed then lined a two-out single to center field to drive in Kuilema.

The Skyhawks (18-26/14-14 NE-10) made things interesting down the stretch. Freshman Lindsay McKillop was inserted to pinch hit in the sixth and promptly delivered a double down the left field line that scored sophomore left fielder Kaitlin Miller and junior shortstop Chelsea Stryker. Stryker led things off with a bunt single and Miller reached via a fielder's choice to get things going.

Traylor took care of the rest with some help from junior second baseman Lindsey David. David snared a pop fly diving to her left with two outs to provide an exciting conclusion to the opener.

Loussedes and Reed were responsible for seven of the nine Saint Rose hits. Loussedes wound up 4-for-4, while Reed went 3-for-3 with two RBI and a run. Sophomore center fielder Courtney Marchand finished 2-for-3 with a double to pace Stonehill.

In game two, the Golden Knights broke open a 1-1 ballgame with four runs in the fifth. Traylor jumpstarted things with an RBI single and then Butterbrodt and Reed each added RBI doubles. David capped things with a pinch-hit single to plate Reed and provide Saint Rose with a 5-1 cushion.

However, the Skyhawks erupted for nine runs in the sixth to put things away. Sophomore left-hander Nicole Eisenmann initially lined an RBI single to get Stonehill off and running. Sophomore catcher Kelsey Wilcox then roped a two-run double, while Marchand and senior first baseman Ashley Langlois added RBI singles.

Reeves finished with a pair of hits to raise her team-high batting average to .379. Traylor, Butterbrodt and Reed were each 1-for-3 with a run and an RBI. Wilcox extended her hitting streak to a league-best 12 games following a 2-for-3 effort for the Skyhawks.

Both clubs are scheduled to conclude their respective 2011 regular-season campaigns tomorrow. Saint Rose will host Bentley University, while Stonehill continues its westward swing to Le Moyne College. Both doubleheaders will start at noon.
