SPRINGFIELD, MA – The College of Saint Rose softball team was limited to a combined four hits, which proved detrimental in a pair of Northeast-10 Conference setbacks this afternoon at American International College. The host Yellow Jackets walked away with a 6-1 triumph in the opener and then chalked up a 9-1 victory in game two.
Junior right-hander Kristen Dolan earned the win for American International in the opener after yielding just two hits in 5.1 innings while fanning 11. Senior right-hander
Nicole Traylor took the loss for the Golden Knights, although she scattered three hits and did not surrender an earned run (six unearned) in 5.0 innings of work.
Sophomore second baseman
Michelle Schroll went 1-for-3 with a walk, while junior shortstop
Lindsey David was 1-for-2 with a walk to spark the offense for Saint Rose (5-12/1-5 NE-10).
The Yellow Jackets (7-11/3-1 NE-10), who put up five runs with two outs in the second inning to break things open, received a pair of singles from junior center fielder Ashleigh St. Peter.
In the nightcap, senior catcher Becky Dion busted open a scoreless ballgame in the fourth inning with an RBI double. Sophomore Stephanie Belanger punctuated the six-run frame with a two-run blast to left field. Her drive preceded a solo shot by St. Peter.
The Golden Knights got on the board in the fifth inning when junior third baseman
Jessica Butterbrodt hit a long ball of her own down the left field line to make it a 6-1 contest. The Yellow Jackets added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth that all but sealed the final outcome.
Butterbrodt wound up 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run, while freshman designated player
Olivia Reeves added a triple.
Saint Rose returns to action Wednesday when the Golden Knights welcome Southern Connecticut State University for a league doubleheader. Game one is scheduled to begin at 3:00 pm. Both contests will also be broadcast live on
www.gogoldenknights.tv. American International hits the field again tomorrow when Le Moyne College arrives in Springfield for an NE-10 twin-bill at noon.
