SAINT ROSE FALLS TWICE AT ASSUMPTION

Freshman left fielder Amber Loussedes had two hits in each game of today's doubleheader at Assumption.
WORCESTER, MA – Host Assumption pounded out 14 hits to win the opener 7-3 and then rallied from 3-0 and 6-4 deficits to take the finale 12-6 in a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader versus The College of Saint Rose today at Marois Field.

Saint Rose went up 1-0 in the first game when freshman second baseman Stephanie Gaska drove home junior shortstop Kayla Kuilema with a sacrifice fly in the second inning. However, the Golden Knights left the bases loaded and subsequently stranded at least one runner in every remaining frame that left the door ajar for the Greyhounds (20-13/14-6 NE-10).

Regardless, the Golden Knights (7-20/3-13 NE-10) scored two more times in the fifth that afforded them a 3-1 cushion after freshman center fielder Olivia Reeves stroked a leadoff triple to right and came across one batter later on an RBI base hit by junior third baseman Jessica Butterbrodt. Butterbrodt then advanced to third via a throwing error on a Kuilema bunt single, and scored on a wild pitch.

Assumption finally got its bats going that led to four runs in the home half of the fifth and two more in the sixth.

After back-to-back infield singles helped load the bases, sophomore second baseman Lauren Medeiros drove in two runs with a double to center. A sacrifice fly by senior first baseman Amy Gordon and a base hit to right by senior shortstop Marissa Palumbo accounted for the other two runs. In the sixth, two out RBI singles by freshman center fielder Tanya Robidoux and Medeiros made it a four-run ballgame.

Reeves, Kuilema, freshman left fielder Amber Loussedes, and senior pitcher Nicole Traylor had two hits apiece to lead the Golden Knights. Robidoux wound up 3-for-4 with three runs scored for the Greyhounds.

In the finale, Reeves smacked a two-run base hit to highlight a three run, second inning and then came through again with a two RBI double to center in the fourth that, coupled with an Assumption error, put the Golden Knights ahead 6-4. However, the Greyhounds struck again late in the game by sending 10 batters to the plate in a seven running, sixth that allowed them to complete the sweep.

Reeves finished 2-for-3 to raise her batting average to a team-leading .408 on the year, and Loussedes went 2-for-4 with a run scored out of the leadoff spot for Saint Rose. Gordon and freshman right fielder Nicole Boris both had three-run homers to spearhead the Greyhounds sixth inning.

Looking ahead, both clubs have 3:00 pm league doubleheaders scheduled for tomorrow. Saint Rose is set to return home to face Adelphi at Cathy Cummings Haker Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex. The two contests will furthermore be streamed live on www.gogoldenknights.tv. Meanwhile, Assumption has a date at New Haven.
