RAVENS SILENCE SAINT ROSE BATS

Sophomore right fielder Steph Luce wound up 1-for-3 in game two for Saint Rose
ALBANY – The College of Saint Rose softball team left a combined 20 runners on base this afternoon and visiting Franklin Pierce University scratched out enough run support late in both affairs to sweep a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader against the Golden Knights at Cathy Cummings Haker Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex. The Ravens took the opener 2-0 and then walked away with a 4-0 triumph in game two.

Senior right-hander Nicole Traylor carried a no-hitter into the fifth inning for the Golden Knights in the opener. Franklin Pierce finally threatened when junior left fielder Rachel Baxter singled through the left side to break the ice and junior third baseman Meaghan O'Neal roped a single to center field. However, Saint Rose freshman center fielder Amber Loussedes gunned down sophomore Alexa Demsey, who tried to go first-to-third on O'Neal's base hit, that allowed Traylor to escape unscathed.

After a scoreless bottom half, the Ravens (7-21/5-11 NE-10) broke through with a pair of runs in the top of the sixth. Junior right fielder Nicole Pratt stroked a double to left center to get herself into scoring position. Senior second baseman Emily Griffin followed with a double of her own to put Franklin Pierce up 1-0. Griffin would later score on an error to provide a 2-0 margin.

The Golden Knights (7-18/3-11 NE-10) did not go down without a fight in their final at-bat. Freshman left fielder Olivia Reeves reached on a fielder's choice. Junior third baseman Jessica Butterbrodt and Traylor worked a pair of walks to load the bases with one out. However, Franklin Pierce senior right-hander Kayla Johnson induced a ground ball that forced out Reeves at home and then got a fly out to end the game.

Traylor recorded four strikeouts, did not yield a walk and scattered six hits over the distance. Johnson was equally impressive with four strikeouts in the complete game shutout. Reeves and Butterbrodt each finished 1-for-3 to lead the Saint Rose attack. Meanwhile, Griffin was 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run for the Ravens.

In game two, Franklin Pierce broke open a scoreless ballgame with two runs in the fourth. Junior right-hander Jessica Wiley drew a leadoff walk and freshman designated player Ashley Noke slapped a single. Sophomore catcher Jessica Furtado then cleared the bases with a triple to right center to provide a 2-0 edge. Baxter provided the final margin with an RBI single in the fifth and an RBI double in the seventh.

Wiley recorded six strikeouts, surrendered four hits and yielded a pair of walks over the distance for the Ravens. Baxter wound up 2-for-3 with two RBI and Furtado was 1-for-4 and drove in two runs to highlight the attack.

Traylor, junior Lindsey David and sophomore right fielder Steph Luce each had base hits for Saint Rose.

Both squads have a pair of league games on tap tomorrow afternoon. Saint Rose remains home to host Saint Michael's College, while Franklin Pierce heads to Le Moyne College. Game one at both venues is set for noon.
