REEVES POWERS GOLDEN KNIGHTS IN SPLIT AT SOUTHERN NEW HAMPSHIRE

Freshman left fielder Olivia Reeves drove home the go-ahead runs via a two-run homer in the top of the seventh of the opener
MANCHESTER, NH – The College of Saint Rose softball team rallied from a 2-1 deficit with three runs over the final two frames en route to a 4-2 triumph at Southern New Hampshire University in the opener of a Northeast-10 Conference twin-bill. The host Penmen shut down the Golden Knights' offense and enjoyed a seven-run third inning to take game two 9-0 in five innings.

Freshman left fielder Olivia Reeves put Saint Rose on her shoulders in game one. Reeves belted a solo shot in the sixth to knot things 2-2. She then delivered a two-run blast over the right field wall in the seventh that put the Golden Knights (7-16/3-9 NE-10) ahead to stay.

Southern New Hampshire (9-17/7-5 NE-10) sophomore left fielder Cristy Jenkins led off the bottom half of the seventh with a single. However, Saint Rose senior right-hander Nicole Traylor retired the next three batters in order to even her record at 4-4 on the year. Traylor did not yield a walk or an earned run in 6.1 innings of relief.

The Golden Knights initially grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first. Junior third baseman Jessica Butterbrodt smacked an RBI single that plated junior shortstop Kayla Kuilema, who was hit by a pitch two batters earlier.

Reeves finished 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs, while Butterbrodt and Kuilema each went 1-for-3 to pace Saint Rose.

Junior right fielder Amanda Barton and senior shortstop Melissa Vitagliano each chalked up a pair of hits and knocked in a run for the Penmen.

In game two, freshman right-hander Dolores Mattice scattered three hits and recorded six strikeouts to keep the Golden Knights in check. Reeves, Butterbrodt and Traylor were responsible for the lone Saint Rose hits in the contest.

The Penmen broke open a 2-0 ballgame with seven runs in a decisive third frame. Vitagliano laced a two-run double down the right field line that initially got Southern New Hampshire rolling. She wound up 2-for-2 with two RBI and scored a run. Meanwhile, senior catcher Elena Anderson and freshman designated player Tesia Stansasek each finished 2-for-3.

The Golden Knights are back in action Wednesday evening when they head to Assumption College for another league doubleheader starting at 3:00 pm. The Penmen are scheduled to meet cross-town rival Saint Anselm College at 3:00 pm Tuesday for an NE-10 twin-bill of their own.
