CLERMONT, FL - The College of Saint Rose softball team put up eight runs combined in the fifth and sixth innings to overcome a 3-2 deficit en route to a 10-5 victory over the University of St. Francis (IL) late tonight at the 2011 NTC Spring Games. The Golden Knights were scheduled to play the Fighting Saints at 1:30 pm this afternoon and then entertain Bellevue University. However, rain pushed back the start time until after 9:00 pm this evening and the contest against Bellevue was subsequently cancelled.
Regardless, Saint Rose (2-3) received a solid pitching performance from freshman left-hander Mikayla Wells. Wells went the distance while recording her first collegiate victory in a Golden Knights uniform.
Saint Rose trailed 3-2, but sophomore designated player Michelle Schroll delivered an RBI single that was part of a five-run fifth inning and thus remove all doubt as to the final outcome. Freshman right fielder Olivia Reeves then delivered a three-run blast in the top of the sixth for the final blow.
Schroll and Reeves each went 3-for-4 in the contest to pace the Saint Rose offense.
Looking ahead, the Golden Knights have a pair of games on tap tomorrow. Saint Rose is scheduled to meet West Chester at 10:00 am before entertaining Lock Haven at 1:00 pm.
